Drawing on 30+ years of experience as an editor and marketing executive at major trade publishers in New York and a decade teaching creative writing, I will work with you to bring out the best in your writing.
Before becoming an independent editor, I spent 17 years as a senior editor and marketing director for the trade book publisher PublicAffairs, specializing in narrative nonfiction. Before that, I worked in both the editorial and marketing departments of Viking and Penguin Books, as assistant to the associate publisher of Random House, and as an assistant to bestselling author James A. Michener. For ten years I also taught creative writing at The Writers Studio.
Books I’ve edited have been New York Times and Washington Post bestsellers; winners of the Overseas Press Club, Women In Media, Action Against Hunger, PROSE, Lysander Spooner, and California Book Awards; finalists for the Helen Bernstein, Christopher, Ralph J. Gleason Music Books, and Books for a Better Life Awards; and Notable or Best Books of the Year in The New York Times, The Guardian, Washington Post, and Financial Times.
But a book doesn’t have to win a prize or hit the list to matter. Your writing is successful when it effectively engages, entertains, informs, and/or moves the readers you aim to reach.
